Dead Until Dawn

Up until just recently none of the authors of this blog have read the Charlaine Harris novels in the Sookie Stackhouse series.  Over the holiday weekend I finally read Dead Until Dawn and I was happy I finally got the chance to read the book.

True Blood, the HBO series goes along with the book pretty well but there are some differences. Tara for example is not in the book series.  I won't go into too many of the differences because I know some of you have not read the book yet, but are planning to do so before the second season of True Blood airs.  I think what struck me the most was the ending of the book, it was much creepier than the True Blood season finale.

I have already started reading the second book in the Sookie Stackhouse Series, Living Dead in Dallas, which I'm sure I will get in trouble for later when Alanna and Kiki find out!  At this point, I can't see how the True Blood television series is going to be in sync with the novel series, because the differences between the first True Blood season and the first novel!

Have you read Dead Until Dawn?  What did you think?

Episode 112: You’ll be the Death of Me

The killer story line seemed to come to a head really quickly and as we had figured out from the previous episode, Renee was the killer. It’s amazing that he was able to hide his true self for so long. I felt really bad for Arlene finding out the way she did, but at least she wasn’t married to him yet!

The love triangle definitely seemed to be at its weirdest this episode. I’m not sure if it could get any stranger than having a naked Sam, picking up and burying a burned to a crisp Bill while Sookie is standing over the grave crying.

Every now and then I think Jason is going to start thinking for himself and it seemed like he was going to turn over a new leaf. But no, he fell into the Vampire hating church crowd instead. I’m not sure if Jason is ever going to get anything right or ever learn his lesson.

Naturally, we were left with a few mysteries at the end of this episode.

1) What happened between Sam and Mary Ann?
2) Where did Sam get all of that money? I mean it seemed like an awful lot of money for a bartender in a small Louisiana town.
3) What/Who attacked Lafayette? There’s no way it could have been Bill.
4) Whose body was found in Andy’s car?

I suppose we’ll get all of these answers and more mysteries when True Blood returns this summer! I can’t wait!

The preview for tonight's South Park episode looks like it's either based on the Twilight book series/movie frenzy or True Blood. Either way it's about vampires.

Episode 111: To Love is to Bury

First off, my theory regarding the trailer for Sunday’s episode was very wrong to my disappointment. I can understand Sookie being angry with Bill because he wasn’t there when she needed him most, but kissing Sam? It just seemed so wrong. Sookie seems to be able to toss Bill aside very easily when she’s angry with him. One minute she can’t live without him and the next she’s kissing another guy. Not cool!

I don’t blame Sookie for throwing Bill out after he had burst in and started fighting with Sam. I can’t say I’m surprised at Bill though. He’s been itching to have it out with Sam for a while. There’s a bit too much testosterone when both of them are in the same room.

Mrs. Forrester (a.k.a. dirty naked dead woman standing in the road with a huge pig on a leash) bailing out Tara was definitely an interesting twist. Tara’s in for a whole boat load of trouble and some big decisions ahead. Tara’s mom also had some nerve! I can’t believe she would turn her back on Tara the first time she really needed her. That left a great big opening for the demon to get a hold on Tara.

We finally know who the killer is! It’s Renee! I wasn’t really taken by surprise when the fax came in at the end of the episode. It more confirmed my suspicion from earlier in the episode when Jason was talking to Renee and Dwight about Amy. Renee asked Jason if Amy had slept with vampires and told Jason that “things have a way of working out”. Then the killer happens to sneak into Jason’s house that night and kill Amy, way too much of a coincidence.

All that’s left is to see how it will all come to ahead next week. I’m sure Bill won’t be leaving Sookie unprotected despite what happened.

Oh and from the preview, it seems that Eric’s favor in return is Sookie…

Rutina Wesley Interviewed by New York Post

Rutina Wesley the actress who plays Tara was interviewed by the New York Post and the interview was posted today on the POPWRAP blog.

My favorite excerpt from the interview:
"You're going to see Tara come to the end of this journey with her anger demon. The car crash represents a fork in the road and now we need to watch and see if she goes left or right, because, let's face it - she's hit rock bottom. I mean, that dress and side ponytail alone is rock bottom! [laughs] Oh, I loved it, loved it!"

I love this image of the cast, so I had to throw it in!!

True Blood Episode 11 Promo - To Love is to Bury

Here it is, the promo for True Blood episode 11, To Love is to Bury.

This promo has me a little upset... Why is Sookie kissing Sam? Why does she resend her invitation to Bill? Is there another death? Why is Jason in jail again? Will Tara ever take off that hideous dress? Will we find out about the lady with the pig in this episode? How can there only be two more episodes left? Why does Sookie say Bill will not be coming back??????

Be sure to watch on Sunday at 9pm Eastern!

Episode 110: I Don't Wanna Know

Hurray! We finally know the truth about Sam. He is a shape shifter. Sookie took it rather poorly though, I was a bit surprised considering that she's dating a vampire. The other fun thing we found out though is that there are other mythical creatures lurking about. We know for sure that there are werewolves, what else could be out there? At this point, I think anything is possible.

I felt sorry for Tara. She seemed so happy after the exorcism. Like a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders and she could enjoy life again. I was starting to believe in the whole exorcism thing myself and was surprised to find out that Miss Jeanette was just a con artist. I have to admit that I didn't see that coming.

As for Amy, I'm not the least bit surprised that she finally crossed the line. I don't think Jason will forgive her. From next week's preview, it seems that he doesn't forgive himself either.

Bill definitely found himself in serious trouble. The magister couldn't have picked a better punishment for him. Although, I was happy that he wouldn't be bound in silver and stuck in a coffin for five years. What is to become of Jessica? Will Bill have to take care of her now and teach her the vampire ways? That might put a damper on his relationship with Sookie.

Now for the million dollar question, who attacked Sookie? We know it had to be someone at the party and Sam doesn't seem to be in the running. Our suspects seem to be Terry and Renee. I don't think it's Dwight, because the attacker was wearing a dark colored shirt. This fact also excludes Andy. There doesn't seem to be anyone else of consequence at the party. Any other ideas?

I do feel it necessary to talk about the preview for next week's episode. I was very upset to see Sookie making out with Sam and uninviting Bill into her house. The writers of this show do seem to be masters of deception when it comes to putting the preview together though. I do not think what appears to be happening is true. My theory is that Sam, Bill, and Sookie have come up with a plan to lure the killer out and what better way than make the killer believe that Bill is no longer protecting Sookie. Sookie would then be an easy target. I guess we'll have to wait and see. This is going to be a long week! I just hope I'm right!

By the way, what was with the naked woman holding a large pig on a leash? That was CREEPY!

Episode 109: Plaisir D’Amour

That was the goriest vampire staking!! Extremely bloody! Sookie had a total Carrie moment. At first I was surprised that Eric and Pam did nothing, but now I see just how little they care about humans. The best line was: "You have some vampire in your cleavage"

Jason’s new girlfriend Amy is turning out to be a total freak, but then seems really good for him the next minute. I think she’s going to start cracking soon and losing it completely.

I’m worried for Bill at the tribunal. If all the other vampires care so little about human life how will they understand why he had to save Sookie? A possible sentence of 5 years in silver does not sound like a lot of fun.

I’m surprised that Tara really believes she has a demon. And if she does, and gets rid of it, will we lose our quick tempered, silver-tongued, smart ass? I hope not :D

So the dog’s out of the bag! Not a werewolf but a dog? We thought Sam was the dog from the beginning but then figured it was just alluding to him being a werewolf. Maybe he’s a shape shifter and can turn into different animals? What do you guys think?

True Blood Episode 9 Promo - Plaisir D'Amour

What happens to Bill and Sookie at Fangtasia? Does Tara have a daemon? What happens to the vampire Jason and his girlfriend kidnap?

Don't forget to watch on Sunday November 2, 2008 at 9pm eastern on HBO!

True Blood Episode 108: Fourth Man in the Fire

I'm sure it came as no surprise to most of us that Bill was not in one of the four coffins discovered in the last episode. He definitely had a dramatic reappearance though. It was very reminiscent of the Night of the Living Dead. Bill could have called out to Sookie rather than grabbing her, but that wouldn't have had nearly the same impact and what followed brought a whole new meaning to dirty sex, no I really mean dirty!

Later in the episode, it was fun to see Bill and Sookie together as a rather normal couple. It doesn't get more normal than babysitting kids, eating pizza, ice cream and let’s not forget the candy corn fangs! Who knew Bill had such a way with children?! BTW where exactly did those huge candy corns come from?

Which brings me to Rene and Arlene, could he have picked a creepier way to propose? I thought for sure something terrible was going to happen. For a moment, I even thought Rene might have been the killer! In case there are any guys reading this, a fake tire problem in the middle of the night on a creepy dark rode is not a romantic setting for a proposal.

On another note, I'm surprised at how thorough Andy Bellefleur is. I never thought he would check out Sam's story about his parents being naturists. Sam should have gone with a much simpler lie. It goes to show that Andy shouldn't be under estimated, which seems to be the trend among the residents of Bon Temps. I think we're all going to be surprised by him before the season is over.

At the end of this episode a lot was left hanging. We have Tara going off to see the exorcist and after seeing the change in her mother, I'm not surprised about Tara's decision. We have Jason and Amy kidnapping a vampire! I knew Amy was going to be bad news, but I didn't realize she was going to be that bad. Last but not least, we left Sookie being attacked by the bartender at Fangtasia. I'm undecided whether it will be Eric or Bill that saves her. Maybe it will be both of them. I have not doubt that Sookie will be getting more involved with Eric and the vampire world, which means at some point either Sookie will become a vampire or she will end up dead. I'm going to root for the former.

What does it take to become a vampire on True Blood?

Bill explains to Sookie that in order to be transformed from a human to a vampire the human must be close to death before drinking vampire blood.

Didn't we see Sookie close to death in the second episode before Bill saves her and demands she drink his blood? Why isn't Sookie a vampire yet?

What does it REALLY take to become a vampire on True Blood?

True Blood Episode 107: Burning House of Love

One of my questions from last week had to do with Uncle Bartlett and we did find out what happened there. Although he wasn't a good person, I do believe that Bill crossed a line by killing him. Sookie would not have wanted that.

I was hoping that we'd see a little more interaction with Bill and Sookie this episode, but the writers seem like they don't want to give us too much at once.

We now know though, that Sookie's faith in Bill won't be easily shaken. She did not believe Bill was really going to live with those other three vampires. I was afraid that she was going to get a sudden case of stupidity, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm really hoping that those three vampires were killed in the fire, but it just seems too easy. The writers also set the scene up nicely by adding the fourth coffin, but we all know that Bill couldn't have possibly been killed.

One of the guys in the bar (also one of the three guys who set the house on fire) mentioned that it was a full moon that night, so it wasn't all that surprising to see Sam running naked through a field. It was very werewolf like, which means that this is one more incident to support the werewolf theory!

As for Jason, he is in so much trouble. That girl is not going to be good for him at all. Things with Jason have got to get a lot worse before they get better.

Oh and does Tara have a demon? That woman seemed to know an awful lot about Tara's troubles.

True Blood Episode 106: Cold Ground

Sookie had to handle a lot in this episode. It wasn't enough that she had to deal with the loss of Gran, but she also had to deal with her idiot brother and the townsfolk. I cannot believe that Jason hit Sookie. Although he deserved her cold shoulder at the funeral, I believe that Sookie will forgive him in time. Until then, I imagine that Jason will continue on his downward spiral.

One question I have is: is Sam going to be with Tara now? It kind of seemed like he was giving up on Sookie, but maybe not. I think Sam might develop an "unwanted" complex though, since Tara rushed off. I can't help but feel bad for him.

Here are a couple of other questions that I have regarding this episode:
1) What did Uncle Bartlet do?
3) Was Sookie really the intended victim?

I have to talk about this...Sookie running to Bill and Bill quickly opening the door knowing that she was coming was classicly romantic not to mention the candles and the fire in the fire place creating pretty much a perfect romantic setting for what followed. Now I suppose I've put my next comment off long enough. Sookie asked Bill to bite her and, of course, he did! I'm a bit surprised at Sookie, but then again by the end of the episode she did a complete 180 on how she felt about her and Bill's relationship from the previous episode. I was shocked at how bloody it was, but a fellow watcher of the show asked me to put it in the context of a passionate moment. The point being, that the bite was not meant to be neat and controlled. The viewer was meant to see Bill's uncontrolled passion and desire. That does make sense, but for me, there is still an "icky" factor.

Episode 105: Sparks Fly Out

This was quite a mixed episode. The greatest laugh of the evening was of course Jason getting it on with the girl behind the dumpster. Tara dumping garbage on them was hardly an interruption – what a couple of FREAKS! I can’t believe Jason did V again! That boy will never learn…

Bill’s past is very sad, seeing how he was turned to a vampire was horrible especially when he was so close to home. It made me feel especially sorry for him that Sookie went to the church with Sam.

Sookie going out with Sam was a disappointment and a pretty big shock, an even bigger shock when he kissed her, I didn’t think he had it in him! Once again, our suspicions that Sam has some dog like qualities is confirmed when Sookie mentioned that while reading his thoughts she usually gets sounds and emotions, not sentences or images like with other people.

One of our favorite characters has been killed off already - GRAN! Gran was really the only person who was OK and encouraging of the relationship between Bill and Sookie. I’m really sad about Gran. I loved her character and I did not expect that she would end up dead. I don’t think, though, that the person who killed Gran is the same person that killed Maudette and Dawn. The M.O. is completely different.

Our suspicion about the murderer being human is also strongly backed by Bill’s discussion with the police. SO… Who is responsible for all the killings? Any theories??

Of course we are all rooting for Bill and Sookie to take their relationship to the next level, maybe next week!!

Fresca anyone?

Episode 104: Escape from Dragon House

We definitely liked Fangtasia. It totally lived up to its name and was creep-tacular. I’m sure we’ve haven’t seen the last of Eric and that his interest in Sookie will grow.

The real question of this episode is what’s going on with Sam? He’s being setup to look like the killer, but that’s far too obvious. There’s growing suspicion amongst our ranks that Sam is a werewolf. We thought he was just looking for clues at Dawn’s house, but what the hell was that at the end??? Did he have a thing for her? Whether our suspicions are right or not, there is more going on with Sam than meets the eye.

True Blood Links

HBO has done some fun and creative marketing for True Blood to show you what it could really be like if Vampires were openly out in the world.... So check out these sites and get sucked into the world of True Blood:

http://www.trubeverage.com

Murder in Bon Temps

Okay, now about these murders. I don’t think it’s a vampire. Why would a vampire strangle a human instead of just draining them? It doesn’t make sense to me. I think the killer is a human that is punishing the women for sleeping with the vampires.

Any other theories?

Episode 103: Mine

Who else was completely taken by surprise with how episode 2’s cliffhanger played out? It did not go at all the way I had imagined. How could Bill invite Sookie in and let her see what was happening? How could he even consider drinking Jerry’s blood? The only explanation I could come up with is that we don’t fully understand the rules of the vampire world and that Bill was doing what was necessary in order to keep Sookie from being harmed. For me, that whole scene painted a much darker picture of Bill then I held previously.

Is Sam Really a Dog?

After watching episode 2 I am convinced Sam is a DOG!

After watching episode one I was in shock that it would take Sam so long to chase down Sookie as she ran after the Rattrays to protect Bill. Why did Sam never catch up to her? She was in the parking lot for what seemed like a long time. Sam was nowhere to be found but the dog shows up… Sam is not seen again until Sookie walks back into the bar and meets him on the way in. Sam is winded, like he had been running, but he couldn’t have been running all that time. Of course, at this point I just think that’s strange and don’t come to my “Sam is a dog” conclusion until after watching the second episode…

In the second episode, right in the beginning, when the Rattrays are kicking the crap out of Sookie just feet from Sam’s trailer, I kept wondering why Sam never came to her rescue. Of course, he hadn’t fallen asleep that quickly and his trailer was right there so he should have heard the commotion going on feet from his front door. Sam never showed, but the dog comes to her aid. It’s clear Sam was awake in his house the entire time that night, because before Sookie leaves in her car she says to her self, “Sams lights are still on”…

Now I am almost certain that Sam is the dog that keeps coming to Sookie’s aid.

Am I the only one who is thinking this could be a possibility? I can’t wait to see episode 3 hopefully some light will be shed on my suspicions that Sam is really the dog!!!

Episode 102: First Taste

There are several things that I want to bring up about episode 2. The first thing is that I thought Bill would have shown up sooner to save Sookie. He was almost too late. I did really like the interaction between them while he was healing her though.

I also love Bill coming over to see Sookie. His interaction with her Gran was great and he definitely cleans up nice. Jason and Tara acted about as I expected. I would have been surprised if they were friendly.

Okay, we finally come to it….Bill and Sookie’s walk. So it seems there is more to Sookie than her ability to read minds. She can’t be “glamoured” by vampires. I’m sure that will come in handy and I hope we eventually find out why. Their first kiss was not a let down either and it apparently did the trick for Bill since his fangs involuntarily came out (if you know what I mean).

How about the ending? Gah! Cliffhangers kill me! It definitely surprised me that those vampires were in Bill’s house. Although, we do know very little about Bill’s past. Makes me wonder what we’ll find out about him in future episodes.

The last thing I want to bring up is, did you see the painting in Sam’s office? It’s a painting of a dog sitting beside a little girl. The dog looks a LOT like the dog that’s looking out for Sookie. Hmm….

Episode 101: Strange Love

In episode 1 we are introduced to the characters of Bon Temps, LA for the first time. For me, it took a little while to get a beat on Tara. At first I found Tara to be hostile, but by the end of the show I found her to be quite funny and I was looking forward to hearing what she had to say.

Almost immediately, my heart went out to Sam as that nice guy who is heartbreakingly in love with Sookie, but does not have a chance. Especially, once our resident Vampire walks into the picture.

It did not take long to discover that Jason is a slut of epic proportions, which already got him into trouble by the end of the episode. The question is; will he learn his lesson?

When we are first introduced to Sookie Stackhouse, you can tell that she is burdened by her ability to read minds and it is not surprising that she is instantly attracted to the one person whose thoughts are a mystery, Bill Compton who, of course, is a vampire.

As vampires go, Bill Compton, is dark and brooding and realizes rather quickly that Sookie is different from other humans. I believe that this is what attracts him to her.

At the end of the episode it is clear that Sookie is smitten, but I was still not quite sure what to make of Bill. What I did walk away with, however, was that feeling of a very intense relationship building between these two characters, which very quickly put Sookie’s life in danger. I’m sure that it will not be the last time.

On a side note, there seems to be something mysterious about the dog.

Please let me know your impressions of the characters.
