What does it take to become a vampire on True Blood?

Bill explains to Sookie that in order to be transformed from a human to a vampire the human must be close to death before drinking vampire blood.

Didn't we see Sookie close to death in the second episode before Bill saves her and demands she drink his blood? Why isn't Sookie a vampire yet?

What does it REALLY take to become a vampire on True Blood?

I was just asking myself the same question, since I saw the episode in which Bill is turned into a vampire, so what I assume is that a person needs to be close to death (after being sucked dry by a vampire) and then drink the vampire's blood.

**If someone already knows something I don't because they have seen the whole series, please dont tell me, I am currently at chapter 7 in the 1st season :)

because she wasn't buried. You need to be buried through one night for the transformation to be complete.
