Episode 203: Scratches

I was happy to see that Jason started thinking for himself for about 5 minutes, but was very easily swayed…don’t know why I was surprised.

Loved the new monster in the woods, the fact that even Eric a 1000 year vamp had never seen anything like that is definitely a concern. Poor Sookie, it kind of sucks being a human when you’re constantly involved with the supernatural. This seems to be the worst encounter so far with the amount of pain she went through and foaming at the mouth. The most interesting thing was that Eric offered to feed Sookie his blood, but Bill wasn’t having any of that.

It was surprising to see the same claw marks on Daphne at the end. She’s turning out to be an interesting addition to Merlotte’s and looks like Sam’s got a new girl.

Well, it didn’t go down with Lafayette the way I expected. It was awesome when Sookie slapped Eric, I think he likes them spunky, those “breathers”. Glad she was able to negotiate to get him out of Eric’s dungeon, but Eric’s not done with him yet, so there’s still a chance he could be turned.

Tara finally started to see that something is off with Maryann. I don’t think Maryann will give her up without a fight. I expect Maryann to be driving wedges between Tara and those that care about her.

Jessica, was so cute, it seems like she genuinely likes Hoyt and he is totally taken with her. Maybe she will stop being such a brat now =)

I have a sneaking suspicion that maryann may have more to do with the monster in the woods than the episode let on. Also I believe it will be most interesting to discover why she "flutters" and how she manages to make everone around her more amorous!

I still don't think Lafayette will be turned. The vamps need the humans to keep an eye on things during the day, like they have been using Ginger. I think Lafayette will end up having to work for them in some way as a human.

After seeing the scratches on Daphne's back, I think she is the creature in the woods that attacked Sookie, I no longer suspect Maryann.

I definitely think that Maryann is the creature in the woods. I think that she sent Daphne, who may be another of her victims, to spy on Sam.

The creature in the woods looks like a Menotaur from greek mythology

Not sure on Lafayette getting turned, when he was trapped at Fangtasia it was either death or to be turned, but now that he’s out, there seems to be more options. Eric may also want to use him to find out about who was selling/trading V in Dallas.

Yea, your right, the monster did look like a Minotaur (which is part man and part bull).
I don’t think that Daphne or Maryann is the monster but they are tied to it in some way.

finally tara sees that maryann is up to something weird! i really wish they would have left maryann out of the show! i dont understand her! STICK TO THE BOOKS!!! i do think that she has something to do with the minotaur and daphne. or maybe daphne is the minotaur???? i dont know but there has to be a link between maryann and the maenad(from the book) bc maryann had that pig in her backyard. in the book when sookie was running away from bill thats when a lady from the woods came out and scratched her back, right?? and she had a pig, i think... its been awhile since i read that book so i may be wrong...

If Daphne (Greek name, but she thinks it's French...total lol moment when she said that) were the monster, why would she scratch herself on the back?

I don't think it's a minotaur. I think it's a satyr. It better fits how Maryann is a Dionysian. A minotaur would have gored Sookie.

I'm thinking maybe the creatures can make others through scratching their victim. The healer took something out of Sookie's scratches. Maybe whatever is left behind can turn the victim.

I love the idea that Greek mythology is getting involved in what's going on. It's so fun!

Yes, minotaurs, Dionysians (Maryann's party was definitely like a Dionysian Bacchanal -- especially with the wine pouring down that half-naked girls face...)

What's with the blacked eye's of the guests at Maryann's party? Anyone? Maybe something like it illustrates that they are in "thrall" to Maryann's power(s) -- their own selves/souls aren't present as they're taken over by the feasting/sexing/drinking -- all in excess -- very Beltane Fire stuff/spring renewal.

Yes, the addition of much other mythology to TB's vampiric realm makes TB even more tantalizing to me.... I can't quite pindown what Maryann is exactly, but she seems to be some combination of all the beastees and mythology mentioned in this thread.

Can someone give more details about what the Meanad did in the original book and who it was involved with and what you know of it?

Don't you love this crazy little Louisana town, that only seems to have two bars and no main street that we've seen, being stocked with all these interesting characters, almost all of whom seem to have extraordinary abilities .... delicious.

Tell me more about your thoughts on how the mythology is developing, people. My curiousity is piqued!....April
